Wow. This has been a crazy media week. Again U.S. news goes for the jugular on shock value. I only wonder if the stupidity would at least slow down if the media didn’t give it so much attention. When a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
I’m sure you heard Time magazine named Vladimir Putin “Person of the Year.” (Article) It’s pretty much common knowledge the man is a mobster who has squashed democracy in Russia and set himself up as a soviet dictator in the style of Stalin. On the other hand, this shouldn’t be surprising. Time named Hitler “Man of the Year” in 1938. Stalin received the honor twice. Ayatullah Khomeini got a nod as well. Obviously, you don’t have to be a nice guy to get the award. (Article)
I’m also sure you have heard that Britney Spears’ sixteen-year-old sister is pregnant. The parenting in that family is amazing (sarcasm). And the award for the most ignorant question raised by a journalist in 2007 goes to- “What message does she want to send to other teens about premarital sex? ‘I definitely don’t think it’s something you should do; it’s better to wait,’ she told the magazine. ‘But I can’t be judgmental because it’s a position I put myself in.’” Seriously? When does the madness stop? Did I fall down a rabbit hole? (Article)
The final case of the evening comes from Johnstown, Colorado where a teenage boy and girl beat a seven-year-old girl to death while they were babysitting. They were imitating moves they saw on the Mortal Kombat video game. You know, the game where you hit and kick your opponent until they die? When asked why they didn’t stop, the seventeen-year-old boy said,”I don’t know; I was drunk.” How could you possibly be this dumb, and how could you ever trust your child with someone this dumb? I’m sorry, but this convinces me that we need capital punishment, not only for the two teens who did it, but the parents of these kids as well. We have to crack the whip, people. I vote death by firing squad immediately after sentencing. Oh, the humanity. In nature, the stupid gene dies out pretty quick. We humans tend to feel sorry for the stupid gene and lend it a helping hand. Then we get disgusted by stories like this one. (Article)
